It rains in San Diego! I mean it RAINED, like Vancouver rain. Apparently it never does that. Pictures to prove it on the way to the airport.....

San Diego Tourists
Robin, the boys and I spent Sunday being tourists. We first went to the Marston House Museum and Gardens, a home constructed in 1905 by George W. Marston. How I wish Les had been with me, he would have loved seeing the house and learning about all the little tricks created throughout it. Here are some pictures but some are very dark (weren't allowed to use a flash).
Then it was into downtown San Diego to Seaport Village where we ate and window shopped. We decided to head out to the Old Point Loma lighthouse but once we got to the gate realized it was closing time so home bound for us it was. Not before coming across these breath taking views......

Signs That Make You Go 'Uh?'
My weekend trip to San Diego started off with dinner in old town San Diego (love this place). However, after parking on a very steep hill we came across the following sign. Stumped us all as we've never heard it worded quite like this before!

Happy 11th Birthday Eli
It seems we forgot to take pictures of the birthday boy!! However, we didn't forget to celebrate.......
We went out for dinner to his other favourite restaurant and then came home to cake. I was attempting to make a mars bar but it looks more like an o'henry bar instead.

Front Entrance Reno
This set of Les's holidays has been spent fixing up the front entrance. We painted a new paint color (Sherwin-Williams Ruskin Room Green from their Arts & Crafts heritage line) and again changed the baseboards and trim as we did in the kitchen/dinning and living room renos.
Les's parents came for a visit (more on that in another post) and helped out. Loving the new color and fresh clean feel! For now I'll leave you with knowing our brains are twirling with lots of different ideas for the stairway.........

The Writing on the Wall (Hearts of the Children Series #1)
The Writing on the Wall by Dean HughesMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
Took me a bit to get into the book but then about half way there seemed to be more detail and depth that kept me wanting to read more. Still haven't decided if it's enough to want to continue with the series.

Re-Energized
An absolute beautiful Tuesday spent outdoors soaking in the warm sunshine and blue, blue skies!! Gratitude for a west coast that can be fairer then them all!
Often grey skies are more prevalent then the blue skies as pictured above. If there is one thing I miss in other parts of the province and our neighbouring Alberta province is the seemingly huge and never ending blue skies enjoyed regularly. However, where else in Canada can one find nearby mountains, an ocean and 11 degrees in February?

Warm Fuzzies
Gratitude for thank yous. I don't think I ever realized how much a 'thank you' means to me. Funny don't you think? Whether I'm the giver or the receiver they are like a beautiful smile that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!
I've always tried to make sure I say thank you to my children for whatever task big or small, expected or unexpected. I guess subconsciously I knew how it always makes me feel and I want them to feel it too. Today's thank yous seemed to be that warm fuzzy I needed to lift my soul. So thank you my dear sweet family for showering me with thank yous and for graciously accepting mine!

The Confession of Fitzwilliam Darcy
The Confession of Fitzwilliam Darcy by Mary StreetMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Mr. Darcy is finally understood! I really enjoyed this book and to finally unravel the mystery of Mr. Darcy, I couldn't help but fall in love with him all over again! What an eye opener reading everything through his eyes, a great reminder that we can misinterrupt people very easily.

The Salt Road
The Salt Road by Jane JohnsonMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
The story goes back and forth between Isabelle's life and Mariata's life. I found I was enjoying and wanting more of Mariata maybe because of the depth of her character. Isabelle's narrative had a little bit of bad language which wasn't needed but stopped. A little long in a couple spots. Interesting to see the connection although felt a little thrown together and rushed near the end, I would have liked more. Overall an enjoyable read with entwining storylines and Moroccan culture.
