Halloween 2010

If Halloween never came I would be just fine with that BUT when you live in a home with children it's just not possible!

Tonight we took part in our wards Halloween Party at the church where there was trick or treating, crafts and activities.

Youth Today

Being the YW's President for a church calling it gives me the opportunity to not only work with girls ages 12 to 18 but specifically focus my attention on those girls that are ages 16 to 18.

This past weekend they had a Tri-Stake Priest/Laurel Conference where they met up with other youth their age (male and female) from the lower mainland, Island and Interior BC. It was a fun weekend filled with workshops, dances, food and good old comradery!

I wonder if I was as amazing as these youth are at their age? What strength and love they have not only for each other but for the gospel in their lives!

Pictured with three of my YW (and a male friend of one of the girls) with the Vancouver Canada Temple behind us.

Are You or Were You a Paper Eater?

Driving home with four girls ranging in the ages of 11 to 16 (1 of them being my daughter) the question came up whether it was okay to eat paper. Seriously eat paper?

Me: I don't ever remember eating paper but we certainly had lots of spitball wars!

11 year old: I think it's okay to eat paper.

13 year old: We use to pretend it was gum.

16 year old: Yeah, we did that too and I know lots of people that use to eat paper and they've turned out just fine.

Me: REALLY? Never thought of that one! Question - what about all the ink that is being digested?

General Consensus from all: No worries.

11 year old (proudly my daughter): I eat paper so I don't have to take it to recycling.

Me: WHAT????? As I'm almost peeing myself laughing. She MUST take after her father. Right?!

Update on Recovery

Adrianna saw an Ortho Surgeon this morning and we were told that another xray was wanted of the knee to see if the small bone attached underneath the knee cap was chipped during the process of being dislocated. As well she has to start physio therapy as soon as possible to strengthen the knee and get her walking on it and off the crutches. When he touched the knee and the surrounding area it doesn't hurt Adrianna just when she tries to put her full weight then the knee cap hurts. Apparently because she is double jointed in her hands and her joints show excessive flexibility he thinks that her knee joint could be the same way. Hopefully by strengthening the muscles around the knee it will help prevent it from happening again or at least often. We see him again in November to see how physio is working for her but in the meantime if things get worse or don't improve then he'll do an MRI.
All in all she's doing good just wobbling around!

ANYTHING Can Happen in Just a Moment

5 hours in emergency, a brand new pair of jeans cut by an ambulance attendant, parking fees, billing for crutches and probably a bill for the ambulance ride later we're home safe and sound!!

This picture was taken after Adrianna had xrays and after a big needle was injected into her knee to drain all the blood pooling around her knee. What a trooper!!

This is our story (really Adrianna's):

We had an exciting afternoon/evening at our place today. Just before school was out I headed to Mission for gas for the truck and Les headed into the garage to muck about. Needless to say Les couldn't hear the phone ringing, which was the school informing us Adrianna had hurt her knee. Thankfully the telephone tree system the school has worked, our next contact person picked up Eli and the school phoned an ambulance for Adrianna. On my way home passing the school I noticed the ambulance and thought it odd considering school had ended 40 minutes earlier never guessing in a million years it was for my daughter!

She was moving her desk at the end of the day somehow slipped and fell and dislocated her knee. We spend 5 hours in emergency.......when she went in for the xray the tech moved her leg and it popped the knee back into place but the doctor wasn't happy with how much fluid build up there was so he drained some of it only to find blood and a few fat cells (not a good sign apparently) so now we know she's done something but what we're not sure or to what extent? The xray didn't show any broken bones but he's concerned with the few fat cells and wondering if it's cracked and/or ligament damage. The doc has been in contact with an ortho pediatrician whom we'll hopefully see Monday, we'll be taking her to White Rock hospital to see him and he'll evaluate what is going on and whether an MRI should be done.

We've brought her mattress down to the main floor since she's bandaged from her ankle to her thigh and is on crutches and has to stay off of her leg at least until she gets in to see the other doctor.

This is the new look:

BUT.......sweet deliveries like these ALMOST make it worth it!
