Craft'n for Cancer

Our All For One team decided that for one of our fundraisers we would make and sell a few different items so this weekend we had our first craft'n day!

My sister Tamsen came over for the weekend (yes, leaving her family behind), which started off with the three sisters visiting and watching a 'chick flick'!! I think the last time Tamsen, Tricia and I hung out was when Tamsen came to help our family out during my 2nd chemotherapy treatment, let me just say this was a much more enjoyable visit!

A late Friday night and then up fairly early Saturday to start on our projects.....Tamsen and Tricia started working on the breast cancer hats while I started cutting fabric. Once Trish was done helping Tamsen out she left Tamsen to finish blinging while Trish and I continued on cutting, which lasted the whole rest of the day!

During all this fun our brother Mike and his family showed up. The cousins played while the girls all worked on projects.

Hats with the breast cancer symbol were made

Soothers with the breast cancer symbol, a dragonfly, ladybug and strips were made (more designs coming)

And bags were cut out and are ready to be sewn (this is a sample, lots of different designs to choose from)

All in all it was a very productive day and LOADS of FUN!!!

Friends 4 Neighbours Block Party Fundraiser

If I remember the story correctly our neighbour Lisa has been taking a course and part of it includes doing something that involves the community in a positive way. She thought long and hard until it finally came to her and about 2 months ago showed up at our door with her idea.

Being that we're a brand new subdivision with the last of the homes being completed and moved into about 6 months ago she thought a block party would be an excellent way to get to know each other but there was a catch........she and some of the neighbours new about the health issues and the struggles we've gone through over the past year so she wanted to take it one step further and not only make it a block party but also a fundraiser where the money would go to our family. We were in shock and high with emotions and really didn't know what to say (more like afraid to say anything because the tears were just at the surface). We humbly agreed and the planning continued.

This past Saturday we had our block party and it was a hit! Out of the 21 homes we have in our neighbourhood 19 participated as well as 4 others (the back of our homes face the alley and the kids all play together). A little worried about the weather at the beginning but it turned out to be a beautiful Saturday afternoon with the aroma of bbq'd hot dogs and hamburgers, music playing in the background and sounds of children's laughter as they ran and played on the road with each other (road was blocked off). Here are just a few pictures that were taken......

Cooper's Food did an incredible job sponsoring the event!! Not only did they donate all the food but also supplied the bbq and cooked the food. They also donated gift baskets and gift cards for the house draws PLUS donated toys for every single child. Here they are in action......

Of course none of this ever would have happened had Lisa not thought of the idea, organized it and run it!!! She did an incredible job. A huge thank you goes out to Lisa, to all our neighbours and to family (Mike, Nikki and Tricia) who were all so willing to jump in and support this great event. Because of their support $1085 was raised for our family. We are indeed blessed to have such wonderful neighbours who we can also call our friends!!!

I LOVE Being An Aunt!!

My brother Mike and his wife Nikki welcomed a new baby girl to their family on the 5th and I was lucky enough to have my niece and nephew over Friday night!!

I have to admit it sure is a big change going from 2 to 4 kids. It was lots of fun the cousins played and played while the adults were ignored except for when something important was needed like food, drink, diaper change...you know the usual adult kind of stuff!

Kaya was pretty excited when she found the chalk!!

Adrianna, Eli, Kaya & Keidis playing bocce ball in the front yard with a couple of the neighbour kids

Of course I have to show off my new niece Ophelia (4 days old here)!!
